Hi, I’m Amber
I help grownups talk with kids about God’s good wisdom for sex, sexuality, and gender without panicking or hiding under the table.
I teach, speak, and write about sexuality topics parents need most while parenting my own two kids through these conversations.
Parents, you’re not alone!
My work is deeply grounded in experience and expertise parents can trust. I’ve spent over a decade helping caregivers navigate the most complex questions at the intersection of faith, sexuality, and gender, long before these topics became cultural flashpoints.
Since 2019, I’ve served as Vice President for Equip, where I developed and taught our signature Parent Course and other resources that help Christian families talk about God’s wisdom for sex, marriage, singleness, sexuality, and gender. I’ve walked this road personally and professionally, including parenting my own children, helping thousands of families build confidence and theological depth as they disciple their kids through everyday life. The guidance I offer isn’t theoretical; it’s tested in living rooms, classrooms, and church communities, and shaped by years of listening, teaching, and caring for families just like yours.
What people are saying about Ready to Talk
Comprehensive without ever feeling overwhelming, clear and simple without losing nuance, this book is saturated with both grace and truth, for parent and child alike. At its heart, Ready to Talk flows out of a life that has wrestled honestly with Jesus through the dark nights of the soul in the area of sex and sexuality. This is not the detached work of an armchair theologian, but the fruit of faithful surrender and lived experience. It has become my go-to resource for parents, a must-have that every parent and pastor should keep close at hand.

In Ready to Talk, Amber Carroll prepares readers to do just that: talk. This book equips parents for the inevitable conversations ahead, offering practical recommendations, suggested wording, and developmentally attuned guidance. Carroll provides a wide range of thoughtful teaching and sample responses to some of the most challenging topics parents worry they will one day face. The material on vocational singleness is especially unique and accessible. I highly recommend this book.

In Ready to Talk, Amber does a fantastic job of skipping the noise to get down to the roots of some concerning values in our society, providing groundwork for countering lies not only relevant to topics of sexuality and attraction, but even to matters of identity, community, romance in general, and more. Oftentimes when Christians reject certain beliefs on gender or sexuality, we still embrace ideas that share roots with them, ultimately just embracing toxic alternatives with their own problems. Amber’s book is full of helpful reminders not only for parenting (which I appreciate as a father of three), but also for ourselves.
